A sales prospect is an individual or organization who matches your ideal customer profile and might be interested in buying from you.

A lead (opportunity) is a type of prospect that has shown an interest in looking at your business, but hasn’t taken the next step of following up with you. The other type is a sales qualified lead.

The definition of a prospect differs between companies. Some companies may be more stringent in defining what it means to be a potential customer than others.
